DESCRIPTION:The Waste Not exhibition presents works from 15 artists using a variety of re-used and discarded materials\, ranging from old farm equipment to discarded plastic objects.  The theme of the show is no waste – less consumption\, and it focuses on the world of reusable materials. \n\nAna Lisa Hedstrom presents ''Our Wide Blue and Black Sea''\, a dye sublimation print on manipulated eco-felt. She explains ''Artists have looked to the beauty of nature with awe\, romance\, reverence\, and trust. Today\, with our knowledge of the effects of global warming\, our view of nature is more complex.  Our Wide Blue-and Black-Sea…expresses this dichotomy between the beauty of what we see and the fragility below the surface.''\n\nOther highlights include Marianne Lettieri's ''Mantle of Iniquities''\, a mixed media piece resembling a medieval surplice composed of hundreds of discarded objects\, and Gregory Farrar Scott's absurd and comical ''Urban Mask Series''\, constructed from recycled bicycle helmets. \n\nThe Gallery is a light-filled venue in a converted warehouse space located at 935 Industrial Avenue (off E. Charleston near the San Antonio intersection). The Waste Not opening reception will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00pm on Thursday\, May 24\, 2012. The Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and features over a dozen exhibits a year.
