SUMMARY:Chili Cook Off and Open House
DESCRIPTION:The Palo Alto Elks invite you to a community open house on June 10th. Tour our facilities\, participate in the day's events and engage with our members to learn more about who the Elks are and what we do. We have two special activities scheduled during the Open House.\n\nChili Cook Off: Bring your best chili recipe and your cooking skills to vie for bragging rights and cash prizes. First place earns you $250 and the opportunity to showcase your dish in the Elks booth at the Annual Palo Alto Chili Cook Off this summer. This is a great way to meet your neighbors and engage in some good-spirited (yet SPICY) competition. Space is limited. Please contact us ASAP to reserve your spot!\n\nAnnual Flag Day Celebration: Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag on June 14\, 1777. It's a time for Americans to show respect for the US flag and what it represents: independence and unity. It is also a day to ceremoniously retire unserviceable US flags. Join us and local members of the Boy Scouts of America to observe this national tradition.\n\n\n\nAbout the Elks: The Palo Alto Elks Lodge (#1471) brings so much more to the local community than just a building\, gym or pool. It is a place where community members and neighbors come together\, families share meals\, and children grow up. Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children stay healthy\, meet the needs of today's veterans\, and improve the quality of life. It is an organization that seeks to enrich our community through engagement\, charity and volunteerism. Over the course of our history\, the Elks have contributed nearly $4 billion in donations for America's youth\, veterans\, disadvantaged and handicapped\, and to individuals and groups in support of patriotic and civic programs. Additionally\, the Elks are the largest private donor to Veterans programs nationwide and have a membership of about 900\,000 men and women. Each year\, Elks gives more than $200 million in contributions and is one of the largest private providers of college scholarships in the United States.\n\nThe Palo Alto Elks Lodge is located at 4249 El Camino Real. Doors open at 10:00 AM. The Flag Day observance begins at 12:00 PM and the chili cook off takes place between 1:00 and 4:00 PM. We hope to see many of you there!
