- SUBJECT: Palo Alto/Stanford Citizen Corps Council Ceremony to recognize five individuals for Outstanding Emergency Preparedness Activities

Palo Alto, CA - The Palo Alto Office of Emergency Services (OES) will host its seventh annual Community Partnership Awards Ceremony, Keynote and Reception on Thursday, January 14, 2016 in the City of Palo Alto Council Chambers from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. A reception will conclude the event at 9:00 PM. The public is invited to attend.
Five individuals will be formally recognized for helping ensure that the community is safer and better prepared for emergencies. The Community Partnership Awards will be given to the following outstanding Emergency Service Volunteer recipients. - Eileen Altman, Block Preparedness Coordinator (BPC), Reverend First Congregational
- Monica Arima, Block Preparedness Coordinator (BPC)
- Grant Elliot, Trailer Captain T4 (Amateur Radio Emergency Services / CERT)
- Scott Petersen, Community Emergency Response Team Trainer (CERT)
- Marianne Strickfaden, Neighborhood Preparedness Coordinator (NPC)
In addition to the recognition of these individuals for their outstanding achievements, a lively keynote presentation “Sea Level Rising – Should We Worry?” will follow the awards. The featured speaker will be Dr. Gary Griggs, celebrated Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences and Long Marine Laboratory at UC Santa Cruz.
Palo Alto Council Member Pat Burt will host the Community Partnership Event. Palo Alto Police Chief Dennis Burns and Fire Chief Eric Nickel will close the ceremony. Director of Emergency Services Ken Dueker will preside over the event. A reception will follow the event.
About the Palo Alto Emergency Services Volunteers (ESV) Program: The City of Palo Alto has partnered with the community to form the Emergency Services Volunteer (ESV) program as a coordinating structure for the Block Preparedness Coordinator (BPC), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Amateur Radio (ham radio), Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and the Community Logistics Team.
